Since 1988 I have been working in the medium of ceramics. A two year course, in the Grennan Mill Craft School was my primary introduction to ceramics, after which I worked in production potteries, furthering my level of experience of working with clay. During this time, I learned and mastered a wide range technically in the field of ceramics.
In 1998, I began renting a workshop space in the National Sculpture Factory, Cork, with the direct intention to concentrate on my own work. This move resulted in the the development of a new body of work, expanding beyond the bracket of craft in which functional ceramics may often be cornered. This new direction in my work, began the active engagement of personal notebooks and drawings into my work, with ceramics, allowing it a more sensitive instinctive base.
Since 2000 my work has been wood-
The aftermath of fire, through these processes greatly interests me. The effects of the fire on objects and structures, and the reaction to this event are integral to the work.
My work’s interests and direction lie in a sculptural field which is my backing motivation and energy.
